Iran-US war latest: Trump suggests peace talks may be imminent but Tehran demands end of blockade before striking deal

April 22nd, 2026

US president Donald Trump has said fresh peace talks with Tehran could begin within two days, despite Iranian officials demanding an end to the US blockade of Iran’s ports as a condition for negotiations.

Pakistani sources told The New York Post that peace talks could begin within the next “36 to 72 hours”. When this was put to the US president, he said: “It’s possible!”

However, Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour, the head of the Iranian mission in Egypt, had warned that Tehran would not negotiate “under threat”.

He added: “We won’t go to Islamabad before the lifting of the blockade.”

Earlier, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they seized two vessels for what they described as maritime violations, posing a threat to the fragile ceasefire extended by Mr Trump on Tuesday.

The ships, identified in a statement as the MSC Francesca and the Epaminodes, were detained for "operating without the required authorisation and for manipulating navigation systems".

The incident brought Mr Trump’s truce under further strain. Earlier, three container ships were hit by Iranian gunfire in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, maritime authorities said.

Silas Vane brings three decades of intelligence expertise to bear on today's most pressing geopolitical realities. A former senior operative with extensive field experience, Silas approaches journalism through the unvarnished lens of Realpolitik, where national interest trumps sentiment, and sovereignty matters more than social media trends. His analysis cuts through cultural noise to expose the underlying power structures shaping our world. While others chase viral stories, Silas examines what truly threatens or strengthens nations. His perspective may be unwelcome in fashionable circles, but it remains indispensable for those who prefer strategic clarity over diplomatic euphemisms. Drawing from classified insights and boots-on-the-ground reality, his commentaries prioritize substance over style, security over sensitivity, and eternal vigilance over naive optimism. In an era of manufactured crises and performative outrage, Silas offers readers what they need: unflinching assessments of where power truly lies, who wields it, and what it means for America's place in an increasingly dangerous world. His work demands attention not because it aligns with popular opinion, but because ignoring hard truths rarely produces favorable outcomes. For those seeking comfort over competence, look elsewhere, Silas speaks only to those prepared to face inconvenient realities.
