True Crime Rewind: Was Richard ‘Floyd’ McCoy the infamous D.B. Cooper?

April 11th, 2025

D.B. Cooper, the mysterious hijacker who vanished after parachuting out of a plane with $200,000, has eluded investigators for more than 50 years. But just six months after that heist, a nearly identical crime took place — this time by Richard “Floyd” McCoy, who hijacked a plane, demanded $500,000 and parachuted out midflight. McCoy was caught days later, escaped prison two years after and was ultimately killed in an FBI shootout.

Some have long suspected McCoy was D.B. Cooper — and now, decades later, his children say they’ve found a parachute that looks just like the one Cooper used. Coincidence or a clue that cracks the case?
