Great Coaches in Kansas City Chiefs Football

2020

Synopsis

This book is written for those of us who love Kansas City Chiefs Football. Those who dislike the Chiefs for their own reasons, will also want this book, so they can try to get a leg up on the facts missing from the bookshelves of those Chief’s fans who do not have this book. This book bypasses college football’s founding and goes directly to the founding of the American Football League in 1960. The AFL came about in 1960 with the Kansas City Chiefs playing under the name of The Dallas Texans. Their first coach was the legendary Hank Stram. In 1963, 29-year old owner Lamar Hunt moved the team to Kansas City. Hunt had been frustrated by unsuccessful attempts to gain an NFL franchise. So, he embarked on a course that would dramatically change the face of pro football forever. He founded the KC Chiefs as the Dallas Texans and he was the principle businessman behind the formation of the American Football League. Lamar Hunt also served as president of the AFL when his eight-team league began play in 1960. This great book about the Kansas City Chiefs would have been nothing without Lamar Hunt’s desire to do the impossible—create a football league to compete against the NFL. Until Andy Reid, 1st Coach Hank Stram, with 3 AFL Championships and two Super Bowl appearances & a win was #1. Coach Marty Schottenheimer’s had seven playoffs, But, the new #1 is the man who broke the 50-year drought, Andy Reid. “Big Red” won the latest Super Bowl for the Chiefs, who are now reigning National Champions. The team is preparing for another in 2021.This book captures the great coaches in Chief’s Football even before the Chiefs were the Chiefs. This Chiefs-first book takes the reader through stories about their 13 coaches to great stories about the 60 seasons worth of great games (916 games ) with 481 great wins. The book often stops in time and talks about a particular great coach such as Hank Stram, Marv Levy, John Mackovic, Marty Schottenheimer, Dick Vermeil and of course the one and only #1 2020 Super Bowl Coach Andy Reid.
