Synopsis
Sports is a religion.
This isn’t a metaphor—sports is a living, evolving religion populated by true believers, who go on pilgrimages to sacred sites (Fenway Park), witness miracles and mythologies (Michael Jordan does not abide by gravity’s rules), observe rituals (Lebron’s “chalk toss” before any game), and, most importantly, form communities around shared beliefs (Odessa, Texas, the town made famous by Friday Night Lights).
From Gotham Chopra—a lifelong diehard sports fan who also happens to be the son of world-renowned spiritualist Deepak Chopra—comes a compelling and incisive exploration demonstrating how heavily sports and religion are intertwined. With an endless list of intimate anecdotes from sports luminaries like Tom Brady, Serena Williams, Lebron James, Stephen Curry, and more, Gotham weaves an entirely unique thread linking the world’s wisdom tradition with an evolving and powerful sports faith.
Passionate and inspiring, The Religion of Sports is not just for diehard sports fans, but also for anyone who’s ever believed in something greater than themselves.
