Synopsis
Operation Northwoods: The Cold War False Flag Conspiracy unveils one of the most unsettling proposals in American military history. In 1962, at the height of Cold War tensions, the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff drafted a plan to stage terrorist attacks on American soil as a pretext for invading Cuba. The goal? To manipulate public opinion and rally support for war.
Drawing from declassified documents and rigorous historical research, Alexandra Vaughn presents a chilling account of the now-infamous Operation Northwoods—its origins, its key players, and the ethical lines it was willing to cross. With detailed chapters on psychological warfare, media manipulation, and false flag operations, this book dives deep into the shadowy tactics considered acceptable under the banner of national security.
From the minds of top military officials to the decisive rejection by President John F. Kennedy, Operation Northwoods offers a sobering examination of power, secrecy, and the fragility of truth in the theater of geopolitics. For readers interested in covert operations, Cold War history, or the darker possibilities of statecraft, this is a must-read account of how close the United States came to waging war under false pretenses.
